Alexandra has been to Kenya in 2012 and until now it has been her absolute favorite trip. We have been planning to go back to Africa, probably in Tanzania or Namibia as soon as it will be possible to travel as it is a continent we really want to discover.
This post will focus mostly on photographies of wild animals and sceneries in National Parks but we know how much more we still have to discover there. We hope you will enjoy reading us and looking at the pictures. On our side, we do not get tired to look at these gorgeous landscapes and wildlife over and over again.

How to organise your safari in Kenya ?
Many famous agencies are organising safaris in Kenya and will take you to the best places. You can also contact local agencies, as they did for Alexandra’s trip there.
Our itinerary in Kenya for two weeks
The itinerary was as follows:
One week spent on the coast at the beach, near Mombasa, then one week for the safari, exploring the following National parks of Kenya: Tsavo West, Ambolesi National Park, Maasai Mara.
It was a perfect mix between relaxation and adventure.

How is the weather in Kenya in August ?
Alexandra has traveled there in August for two weeks. At the beach, it was mostly hot and the water was warm enough to swim.
However, be ready for some rain, a rain coat is definitely needed during this period.
During the safari, it will be cold in the morning and late afternoon, the best is to have two or more layers of clothes to adjust during the day, following the sun. But it was surely not “summer hot” in the national parks.
Do not forget about the mosquitos, trousers are always a good idea !

The Kenyan coast, near Mombasa
Mombasa is the oldest city in Kenya and the second largest one, just after Nairobi, the capitale, in the country.
The coast near Mombasa is very beautiful and was still very preserved back then.
The weather is perfect to spend few days at the paradisiac beaches and have a massage with a sea view.

Tsavo West National Park, Kenya
Tsavo West National Park was established in 1948 and is located in the Coast province of Kenya. It’s accessible by car from Mombasa and offers an amazing first safari experience.
What to see in Tsavo West National Park ?
Stunning sceneries, Mzima springs, lava field, red soils and lots of widlife. You definitely need to stop for a coffee at Serena Kilaguni lodge, which will offer you a great viewpoint to spot wild animals. It was also the first lodge to open in the park, in 1962.

Amboseli National Park, Kenya
Amboseli National Park is one of the most famous national parks in Kenya, and the second most visited in the country after Masai Mara Park.
Located north of Kilimanjaro, it offers a spendid view over the mount by good weather.
It has been classified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1980. In 1940 it has been established as an animal reserve, while a conflict has long opposed the government to the Maasai who have always been settled in the region. First the Maasai were expelled, then they found an agreement with the State: in exchange for lands, they have allowed for the National Park to be created in 1974.
What to see in Amboseli National Park ?

Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
Probably the most breathtaking nature I have seen so far. Masai Mara offers the most gorgeous sceneries.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is located in the South-West of the country. It’s contiguous with the Serengeti National Park, in Tanzania and offers a spectacular wildlife.
Masai Mara is named as such because of the Masai, still living in the reserve and the Mara, the river that crosses it.
What to see in Masai Mara ?
Tall grasses, an expanse as far as the eye can see, the migration of wildebeest, big fives and thousands more of wild animals. Masai Mara is a feast for the eyes.

Movies to see before travelling to Kenya
African Cats
A magical movie produced by Disney is a Nature documentary filmed in 2011 about the life of a lion packs and a family of cheetahs in the Savannah. The movie was mostly filmed in Masai Mara National Reserve and will take you right into the Savannah. This movie is definitely not only for kids and you should not miss it, to discover the beauty of Kenya!
Out of Africa
Currently available on Netflix, Out of Africa, by Sydney Pollack, is a movie of 1985, starring young Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, tells us a love story that seems impossible, with, in the background of the First World War and the colonial era. The movie may be a little old, and long, but for the landscapes, it really wort it!

Kenya has been the most astonishing destination so far. Nothing, no landscape has been compared, no dizziness in the face of this nature and this wild life, no other destination has been as magical as the discovery of Kenya. We cannot wait to go to Africa together, and for now, it’s on top of the list for our honeymoon!

November 7, 2020 at 5:49 pmWhat an amazing adventure. I’ve yet to do Safari and Namibia is my first choice for it, but I’d love Kenya as well. Your photos are dreamy, must be incredible to see the animals in their natural habitat.

November 9, 2020 at 9:46 amWhat an amazing experience in Kenya! The landscapes and the variety of animals you saw during your safari look incredible. The one where the lion came up so close to the jeep is crazy. Were any of the animals so curious that they tried to climb in? I’ve never been anywhere in Africa so I have lots of things on my bucket list (including a safari). Thanks for sharing these amazing photos!
