How to stay busy at home during the lockdown

⏰Set a routine as a reference, but it’s okay if you don’t respect it everyday. It’s a stressful time, make it to help you daily, not to pressure you more.
Live it as a day travelling. You have plans, but you may end up doing something totally different from what was planned, that’s part of the game. Myself, I have set up to wake up everyday at 7:30am and to read in bed until 8:30am in the morning. Sometimes I do it indeed, and it feels great, I have not even start the day yet and I already read something! Some other time, as I don’t set any alarm, I do not. And then, well, it’s okay. As they say in Pirates of the Caribbean’s, « The code is more like guidelines ».

☑️Look at your to-do list and see if you can tick some things out. We use Wunderlist, where we add everything we have in mind: our travel ideas, our groceries shopping list, our films and books lists and of course all the things we need to do (pay our taxes, send this paper to the bank, etc).
Now that you are at home, it’s time to do as many boring things as you can. Once you will be out again, you will be so happy all the boring got done already ! And the feeling to cross things out is so good and make it feels like a very productive day.

📚Read some books. It may be hard to focus at first, but it’s the best way to clear your mind in the end. We all have this book waiting to be open on the our night table, maybe it’s time to give it a chance.
I am currently reading Idiss – by Robert Badinter, in French, a beautiful book written about Badinter’s grandmother. François is reading Churchill’s memories and he is quite passionate about it, talking about it and quoting the great man all the time! He is now planning a second world war tour to visit the most interesting battle locations!

📽Watch the best movies. You still have not seen Green book or Parasite ? You have time to do it now. Many websites are currently giving access to great (and sometimes recent) movies for free, take advantage of it (For France, check Madelen, the first 3 months are free and will give you access to some great chefs d’oeuvres.
If you are more about TV shows, I am currently watching Self-Made on Netflix and it’s a very fresh and motivating show. If you need some more ideas, check the Terror (on Amazon Prime), the Marvelous Mrs Maisel (Amazon Prime), the English Game (Netflix) or the famous Peaky blinders (available on Netflix France).

✈️Plan your next trip. Of course, we will not advice you to book your plane tickets right away, however you will have time to check on so many articles, books, videos, blogs to plan perfectly your next trip.
François is currently planning our next trip, a road trip to Scotland. We were not sure to find time to properly plan it before getting there, and here we are. If you need inspiration, you can check our itineraries for 2 weeks in Greece or 3 weeks in Costa Rica.

🎨Create. Go back in time, there is always this one thing you wanted to do as a kid. I used to love to draw, and then I did not make time for it, and suddenly, 10 years later I had not touched a pencil for a decade. It may be writing, drawing, painting, playing piano. There is this one thing that will make you reconnect with yourself.
I have started to draw again during our last trip to Costa Rica, it feels so good and it relaxes me so much when I do it, and what is best to capture than our travel moments?

🧹Make it clean ! Your computer, your photos from summer 2011, your room, your closet. All of these things you keep on your mind but you don’t need anymore. Take it one at a time, but make it the time to make some space. We don’t realise how much things (or memories) suffocate us until we let them go.

Two tips I use myself

  • Struggling to clean your closet? Apply this simple rule: did I wear this for the past 6 months ? If not, just get rid of it now – wedding dresses excepted.
  • Struggling to order and classify your travel pictures? Set an objective to create an album. It will force you to select the best pictures from your trip. To create our albums, we use Photobox, it’s simple, not too expensive and gave us great results so far.

🏅Take care of your body. No need to do 100 push-ups a day or to challenge yourself for a 6 minutes plank 3 times a day, but remember you are moving way less and your body may get bored as well. Depending on what you like and if you have any concrete objectives in mind, set 3 to 4 sessions a week (starting from 20 minutes) and do some Yoga, HIIT or any workout to make you feel better. Getting shaped will be a must for when you will travel again: few days hike, rafting, kayaking, … you’ll be ready for anything!

With François we have started to do the « 30 days program » of Yoga with Adrienne. It’s 30 minutes session, perfect for beginners.

We also do from time to time other workout videos, especially on Pamela Reif’s YouTube channel (keep in mind that they are not all for beginners, they can be sometimes too hard and demotivates instead of uplifting you).

🧘‍♀️Take care of your mind. It’s not only about mediation, even if some podcasts are great for the most anxious ones (I really enjoy the Daily Meditation Podcast, the Meditation podcast, and more recently I have discovered the free version of the app Calm), it’s more about listening to yourself. it’s normal to be stressed out, anxious and a little lost with what is going on.
You know yourself the best, but maybe a good solution should be to stay away from the internet and all the alarmist posts and news you will see everywhere and instead think of all the nice things you plan to do once the lockdown is over : this restaurant you really wanted to try out for years, the rooftop opened last summer, this week-end in Séville… (I do, and once again, I have my « Post lockdown plans » list getting longer and longer!)

💌Give news to your significant others.

Send Fizzer postcards
Alexandra has been writing postcards to our grandparents using the app Fizzer. It’s a very nice app, intuitive and allow us to send some nice pictures from the lockdown or from our last trip to our family sharing our program and activities with them. Select your photos, write your postcard, add your recipient and that’s it!
Get two postcards for free by entering the code ALEXA591830 during your first purchase on Fizzer. On top of that, during lockdown period, Fizzer is offering 1 new postcard every Sunday. Enjoy!

Create a Neveo Journal
Alexandra’s grandmother is lockdown by herself for the two last month, as many other old person around the World. Alexandra has found online a great idea to bright her day: a Neveo photos journal! The journal is created at the end of each month with 50 to 180 pictures (depending on the plan you choose), printed and sent to the person of your choice. It’s very easy to do from mobile, and apart from choosing the pictures and add comments on it, you have nothing to do. We use it for our grandparents, but you can use it for your friends or any members of your family, it’s a very simple way to stay in touch with them.
Price: Install the application ( and try it with our code “R8Y45G” to send your first journal for free! (save 9,99 euros, non-biding offer)

Take care of yourself and other around you and stay safe during these weird times. Do not hesitate to let us know how you keep yourself busy during the quarantine !
Thank you very much if you are part of the people not working from home, allowing us to have and buy food and other essentials or get things delivered safely to our homes, and an even bigger thank you if you are a healthcare worker, doing your best everyday against the virus.

I think that everybody needs a routine whilst in isolation. I still make sure I get up and do my morning routine everyday, even though I’m not putting on my work clothes I make sure I put on an outfit that makes me feel productive and not like a slob.
